Journey to Literacy and Beyond provides in-person tutoring for students kindergarten through Grade 12 in the Johnstown, PA region. We focus first on reading and math, then on core subjects. We also offer help with Credit Recovery which may be needed to meet high school graduation/diploma requirements.
Our individual one on one tutoring sessions pair each student with a certified, highly qualified, experienced and enthusiastic teacher. We have high expectations for each student regardless of their background. Our teachers respect our students’ diverse cultures and traditions, and we follow today’s most respected academic curricula as taught in our students’ home schools.
We meet each student at their current level and move forward from there, striving to provide intelligent support so each student may progress forward and at the same time come to enjoy learning. A positive attitude helps improve chances for overall success.
Journey to Literacy and Beyond is a newly registered nonprofit organization, started by Francine Cashaw, a life long resident of Johnstown, a wife and mother, a certified teacher with a Masters Degree in Education, and experience managing the tutoring program at a local After School Program. Fran wanted to develop a more intense, more focused tutoring environment for youngsters who need academic help. Our tutoring location is in space secured from St. James Missionary Baptist Church, 400 Pine Street in Johnstown. We have begun enrolling students now, with a tutoring start date of July 11, 2025.
